Why Take Collagen?

I honestly thought collagen was just for hair, skin, and nails. I had no idea that with the right collagen, you could see benefits in muscle mass, cellulite, even weight loss!

So let’s break it down and talk about it.

Benefits of collagen:

  • It can improve your skin health

    • In one study, women who took a supplement containing 2.5–5 grams of collagen for 8 weeks experienced less skin dryness and a significant increase in skin elasticity compared with those who did not take the supplement

  • Helps relieve joint discomfort

    • In one study, 73 athletes who consumed 10 grams of collagen daily for 24 weeks experienced a significant decrease in joint pain while walking and at rest, compared with a group that did not take it

  • Could prevent bone loss

    • Studies have shown that taking collagen supplements may have certain effects in the body that help inhibit the bone breakdown that leads to osteoporosis

  • Promotes heart health

    • Collagen provides structure to your arteries, which are the blood vessels that carry blood from your heart to the rest of your body. Without enough collagen, arteries may become weak and fragile (Source)

  • Helps boost muscle mass

    • In one study, 27 frail men took 15 grams of collagen while participating in an exercise program daily for 12 weeks. Compared with men who exercised but did not take collagen, they gained significantly more muscle mass and strength

  • Supports a healthy gut

    • Research shows that patients suffering from IBS and similar inflammatory conditions like ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn’s disease (CD) tend to be low in collagen IV. What’s more, animal studies show that supplementation with collagen can help to repair a damaged intestinal lining

Now, I backed what I said with peer reviewed research. And I’ll never claim to find the cure for anything here, so let’s make that clear.

But I will say, I’ve seen a big difference in my skin, hair, nails, extra skin (from pregnancy), stretch marks, cellulite, and muscle growth from taking a collagen supplement consistently.

Let me tell you what which one I take. Actually I’m going to let the doctor tell you about the collagen I take. Here is what he says:

The first step is Support. You get the collagen you need right now with highly-bioavailable forms of Type I and Type III marine and grass-fed bovine collagen, which supports healthy skin, hair, and nails.

The second step is to Boost.  Our collagen builds for the future by enhancing your body’s natural ability to produce more collagen, which helps to strengthen your skin structure.

The third step is to Maintain. Keep more of the collagen you already have in your system by inhibiting an enzyme responsible for collagen breakdown.
